Recurring entries
Rent, subscriptions, salary and savings on a schedule: entries record themselves on their date or wait for you to confirm.
A recurring entry is an expense, income, transfer or exchange that repeats on a schedule: rent on the 1st, a monthly subscription, your salary, a transfer to savings, yearly insurance. Set it up once and entries appear in the journal by themselves.
Set up a recurring entry
There are two ways, and both open the familiar entry window.
- From a new entry. Press N, fill in the entry as usual and pick a step under Repeat — every day, week, month or year. The Record button turns into Schedule.
- From the Recurring section. Click Add — the window opens with the schedule already shown.
Besides the entry itself, a schedule has three settings:
- First on — the date of the first occurrence. It also sets the day of the month: a rule for the 31st lands on the last day of a shorter month and on the 31st again the month after.
- Interval — how many steps apart: “2” with “week” means every other week.
- Last on — an optional end date, such as the end of a school year.
Record on schedule or ask first
- Record on schedule suits fixed amounts — rent, subscriptions, a transfer to savings. The entry appears in the journal with its scheduled date, as if you had recorded it yourself.
- Ask before recording is for amounts that change every time: utility bills, a salary with a bonus. On the date the entry waits in the Recurring section and in the overview widget. Click Record — you can adjust the amount right in the row — or Skip if there was no payment this time.
If the first date has already passed, entries for the dates that have come are recorded as soon as you click Schedule. A schedule can start at most a year back.
Exchange rates
A recurring entry in another currency is recorded at the reference rate for each date. It has no rate of its own, because the rate of a future day isn’t known in advance. If there’s no rate for that date, the entry isn’t recorded and the Recurring section shows why. Record it by hand or fix the rule.
The Recurring section
- Waiting for you — dates that wait for confirmation or couldn’t record themselves.
- All recurring entries — with schedule, amount and next date. Click a name to edit it. The ✓ button records the next date today — for example, when rent was paid early.
- Next 30 days — upcoming dates by day. The header shows how much will leave and arrive on your accounts over that time, in your main currency.
On the overview, the Upcoming recurring widget shows the same dates.

Edit or delete
Changes apply to future dates. Dates already recorded or skipped never repeat, even if you move the first date. Recorded entries are edited in the journal like any other.
Deleting a recurring entry stops the schedule. Entries it has already recorded stay in the journal.
