# First steps: the five-step setup

> Create an account, wait for admission, then set up your base currency, first account, categories and first entry.

## Create an account

Open [app.asienta.app/register](https://app.asienta.app/register) and fill in your name, email, a password and the name of your household — the name of your books, which you can change later.

During early access new accounts are admitted by hand. After registering you’ll see **Account created and awaiting admission**. Sign in again once you’ve been told your account is open.

If someone invited you, open the link they sent: you’ll see **Join a household** instead and land in their household after signing up.

## The five steps

Asienta starts empty on purpose: there is no preset list of accounts and categories, because everyone’s are different. The overview shows a short setup instead:

1. **Base currency** — the currency your net worth and reports are counted in. See [Base currency](/en/docs/base-currency/).
2. **First account and balance** — a card, cash or a deposit, with roughly what’s on it now.
3. **Expense categories** — start with four or five big ones, such as Housing, Groceries, Transport, Other. You can split them later.
4. **Income sources** — salary, freelance, interest.
5. **First entry** — record your latest purchase, and your first figures appear.

You can take the steps in any order, or skip the setup with **Open the overview anyway**. The order above simply means less going back.

## Recording from now on

The **Record entry** button in the header and the <kbd>N</kbd> key open the entry panel from any screen. Next: [Expenses and income](/en/docs/expenses-and-income/).
