# Currencies

> Add currencies from the list with automatic rates, or your own with a rate you set.

Every currency you use is added to the household once, in **Currencies**. The first one you add becomes the [base currency](/en/docs/base-currency/).

## Add a currency

Click **Currency** and choose:

- **From the list** — pick a currency; its name, sign, number of decimals and rate to your base currency are filled in, and its reference rate is then loaded automatically every day.
- **My own** — for anything not in the list: enter a code, name, sign and the rate to your base currency yourself.

## The table

For each currency you see its code, name, sign, decimals, **Rate to** your base currency and the inverse rate. Amounts everywhere are shown with the currency’s number of decimals — two for euros, none for currencies without cents.

## Change a rate

**Change the rate** records a new reference rate from today. Entries keep the rate of their own date: changing the reference rate never rewrites the past. For a single entry at a different rate, set [your own rate](/en/docs/own-rate/) in the entry instead.

## Archive

A currency you no longer use can be archived; its history stays in reports. **Restore** brings it back.
